More Info:

Many tracks new to CD. Includes numerous Jamaican hits. Features some of reggae's biggest stars of the 1970s. In the years immediately following it's arrival during the latter part of 1968, reggae music continued to develop and transmute, with a handful of independent record producers primarily responsible for each new development. Among those at the forefront of these musical revolutions was the multi-talented Lloyd Charmers who since embarking on a career as a record producer in 1968 had scored numerous national hits, despite limited financial resources. His run of hits continued throughout the early 70s, with best-selling singles from this time including recordings by some of Jamaica's most popular performers, notably vocalists Alton Ellis, B. B. Seaton & The Gaylads, Ken Parker and DJ pioneers U Roy and I Roy. These works feature on this long overdue collection that focuses upon the very best of Charmers' productions from one of the most overlooked periods in Jamaican music history. Featuring an array of Jamaican hits along with numerous rarities new to CD, 'Salvation Train' provides a compelling insight into the development of reggae during one of it's most exciting periods, as well as demonstrating why Lloyd Charmers is widely regarded as one of reggae music's most creative and accomplished record producers.
